Resort and Leisure Report  January, 2011

 Happy New Year everyone!  2011 can you believe it? Everyone loves to make New Year resolutions and I guess Resort and Leisure Ministry is no different. Last year was a learning year for all of us and it was a successful year. I realize that all of the churches in the Outer Banks region do their own ministries, but one of our New Year Resolutions would be to encourage the nine churches in Dare County who make up the Resort & Leisure as well as the Chowan Baptist Churches at large to work together. There is so much more we can accomplish when we work together.  The summer beach ministry and camp ground ministry were successful but I think we could even do more with cooperation from others in the Association.  We would love to see a float in the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, and more churches represented at Dare Days the first of June which is a big event in Manteo to usher in the summer. One of the most successful ministries we have had here in the Outer Banks is Bike Week. The Kitty Hawk Baptist Church with Pastor Don Teears leadership has had a very successful outreach the entire week of the Bike Week.  Every year in November The entire Outer Banks has its annual Marathon, this event draws thousands of people each year. The Marathon celebrated its 5th year in 2010 and for the first time in its existence there was a Evangelical presence at the expo. Over 10 thousands people come to this expo to pick up their running packets and this year Chowan Baptist Resort & Leisure Ministry was their! We had a booth and at this booth we sold bumper stickers that had OBX 26.2 or OBX 13.1 on the sticker plus Resort & Leisure info and scripture Hebrew 12:1. There was also water for free, brochures giving information about R&L and the nine churches. R&L also Gave out hundreds of tracts and bibles and even candy for free. We promoted a spaghetti Dinner and a Worship service for the runners.  I don’t think people realize yet the impact this presence of the R&L at this expo will play in the future. I do not claim to be a prophet but I am excited about the future that R&L will have with the Marathon weekend. If we can get the support this year for the marathon event we could sponsor a water station brings youth groups or church members to volunteer and what major impact we could have on the community. One more note about this event, when we sponsor this race Chowan Baptist Resort & Leisure gets their information in the hands of every runner who picks up there packet at the expo.

We serve an awesome God, He brings people from all over the world every year to the Outer Bank, question is, do you want to become a part of the Ministries of the Resort & Leisure in the Chowan Association. My prayer is you will. Please pray for us this year; I have only tap into a few of the many things we could do together!
