Planning for Technological Ministry

It is an exciting time to be in God’s service.  Unprecedented ministry and evangelical opportunities surround us.  God is calling us to minister to His people in new ways.  He is providing us with new tools.  Technology is perhaps the most prevalent one.

David E. Noble, in his book The Religion of Technology, contrasts the “triumph of reason” with the “fundamentalist faith akin to revival” and asks why we view them as necessary opposites.  Fact is, congregational life is better today as a result of technology, not in spite of it.  Various studies have been done, numerous queries have been performed, and all the data points to the fact that the church can effectively use technology to do its work.  We can, and God tells us we must!  So the question is how.  We need a plan!

Stop, look, and listen.

  • ·        Stop
  • ·        Look
  • ·        Listen

You say you want a revolution? NOT!

  • ·
  1. o       Administration and Finance
  2. o       Communications
  • ·
  1. o       Learning labs
  2. o       Worship presentation

We need a plan, not a script!

  • ·
  • ·        Be flexible enough to move at the speed of technology or slow enough to wait for those who really are trying but aren’t as quick to warm up!

When all else fails . . . PRAY!

  • ·
  • ·        Encourage others to pray for it too!  Can you over-pray?  Never been accused of that, huh?
